Broken iPhone glass? It's one of the most common problems for owners of Apple phones. Hardly anyone wants a "spider's web" on their beautiful iPhone. But replacing cracked iPhone glass isn't just a cosmetic matter.

Replacing cracked glass vs a broken iPhone display
What's the difference? If it's the iPhone display itself that is broken, there's nothing to think over, because in that case the phone is unusable. The whole front panel then has to be replaced and there's no avoiding a visit to a repair shop.
If the phone still works, however, it's probably "only" cracked glass. Many users conclude that they "can live with" this blemish on their device and decide to save on the repair. Unfortunately, that mostly doesn't pay off.
The consequences of an unrepaired display can lead to more and more damage
By using a device with cracked display glass over a long period, you expose it to a high likelihood of further damage. Even if only the top glass of the display is broken and the phone otherwise works, shards may come loose from it, depending on how badly the glass is damaged. They can hurt not only you but your phone as well.
You can see that this glass is slowly starting to “crumble”. It won't be long before the phone stops being usable at all. Even at this point it responds very poorly to various gestures.

The reason is that shards easily get right into the insides of the device, where they can do considerably more damage. The device is also more exposed to dirt.
The most common problems after iPhone glass cracks
- poorer display backlighting
- dark spots
- the display's touch surface responds less well
If the display's touch surface stops responding altogether, the phone is unusable.
It is also important to mention that if the device is damaged as a result of cracked glass, the repair will not be covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

Moisture and water are no friends of cracked glass
Few people would think of testing the water resistance of an iPhone with cracked glass. But it isn't only about liquid – moisture is a problem for an iPhone with broken glass too.

And although many iPhone models are water-resistant, liquid damage is not covered by the warranty. Repairing a device after liquid has got inside costs from 800 Kč, depending on the model of your phone. So if water gets into it through the cracks in the glass and does damage inside, you can add this “drying out and de-sludging” to the price of replacing the glass/display.
Don't play the home handyman
All over the internet you'll find plenty of written and video guides on how to, say, replace cracked iPhone glass at home – usually with the help of a heat gun, a hairdryer, special adhesive and so on. All we can tell you is that it really isn't worth it. There are a great many steps you can get wrong, things you can overlook or mishear, and your device can suddenly turn into nothing more than an unusable paperweight.
It isn't nice to look at and it's hard to use – and that's before we even mention the cracked glass over the front camera. The owner of this iPhone 6s can forget about selfies and FaceTime calls just like that.

Leave repairs to the professionals and visit an iPhone repair shop instead. The sooner you do so when the glass is broken, the fewer risks you run by carrying on using the phone. And, of course, since in the overwhelming majority of cases the damage was caused by the user, you'll have a hard time getting a broken display fixed under warranty.
Even here, though, there are various options. Retailers may offer you the option of insuring the device against precisely this kind of breakage. They then usually replace the damaged unit with a new one. Bear in mind, though, that it will cost you something. The price goes up with the length of the cover. Premium home contents insurance packages can come in handy too, as breakage of your phone can be added to the cover there as well.
Sometimes, however, prevention is better than bearing the consequences of unrepaired glass or an unrepaired display on an iPhone – or on any other type of phone, for that matter. So if you're worried that a defect like this could happen to you too, invest a few hundred crowns in an accessory in the form of tempered glass. It will withstand even a blow from a hammer.
