An iPhone display repair never comes cheap, and the newer the phone, the more you'll pay. Fortunately, there are ways to protect the display. And since a broken iPhone display is a fairly common thing and just about every user has come across it, you certainly know how unpleasant it is. You can protect the display even with a small investment, and rest assured that it pays off. There's something for everyone in what the shops have on offer.
A glass screen protector for your iPhone
A glass screen protector for an iPhone pays off in many cases. It's stuck firmly to the display and protects it. In a fall it absorbs the energy and breaks, while the phone's display stays intact. It protects against scratches too – and if it comes to that, it is of course the protector itself that gets scratched, which costs a few hundred koruna rather than several thousand like the phone's display.
The downside, on the other hand, can be that the phone feels less pleasant to use. Glass protectors are very thin and getting better all the time, but you can still feel one on the display when you use the phone. In bright light, reduced display brightness and poorer legibility show up as well. Sometimes the display may even respond less well to touch, especially in winter or when your fingers are damp. It's a compromise, but one that many users are happy to make.
If the glass protector breaks, it's no disaster. You don't have to run to a repair shop needlessly; you simply replace the glass on the phone's display with a new one. What's more, a display repair takes some time, and you'll wait at least a few hours if you want the new display to hold firmly on the phone. Applying a glass protector, by contrast, takes just a few minutes.
Tempered glass for an iPhone does cost something too, though. A lot depends on the phone model, and the price can climb to over 500 Kč. Still, it's cheaper than replacing an iPhone display. Sellers sometimes even claim that not even a direct blow with a hammer will damage the display.
What about a protective film for your iPhone?

Soft films help against scratches, but because they're so thin and less durable, they can look rather unsightly after a short time. Their protection against drops is nothing special, but there are exceptions, such as the Belkin InvisiGlass Ultra Privacy screen protector.
The word Privacy in the name is there on purpose: it blocks the view from the side, so you can see what's on the display only when you look at it straight on. If you turn the phone to landscape, though, other people can see it comfortably too. Careful testing has shown that InvisiGlass Ultra is a tougher protector that copes with minor drops, knocks and contact with hard objects such as coins or keys. It can even boast scratch resistance against a pencil of 9H hardness. It therefore provides the highest possible level of protection.
Its drawback, however, is its high price. It climbs to over 1,100 Kč, so everyone has to think carefully about whether it's worth it to them.
An iPhone case protects the phone too

Another option is certainly an iPhone case. An iPhone case protects not only the phone's screen but its back as well. The case is often built so that it extends beyond the phone's upper edge, so when the iPhone falls onto a flat surface, the impact is cushioned and the display stays intact. A lot depends on the quality of the case itself, though, and of course on sheer chance.
Getting a folio case seems to be a good choice. It looks like a wallet and may also include handy pockets for payment cards or smaller banknotes. Most importantly, though, it fully covers the phone's screen as well. The obvious drawback is having to open the case every time you want to use the phone.
It's no more elegant when you're making a call. The open front flap covers your face and won't stay put. The case's hinge is also put under strain, and your one-handed grip on the phone won't be secure either. The company Ballistic, for example, is known for its rugged cases, which consist of several layers and boast certifications for withstanding drops onto a flat surface from heights of around 2 metres. But how the testing was carried out and how many phones paid the price has not been published anywhere.
Preventive protection is better than an iPhone display repair
You no doubt go for preventive check-ups at the doctor's, take your car in for them, watch what you eat or take vitamins. It's the same with your phone's display. A broken display can happen to anyone, and it needn't even be down to your own clumsiness. Someone bumps into you, the phone flies out of your hand and in an instant it's broken.
All manufacturers try to make their products as sturdy as possible. But the fragility of phones is a well-known fact. While phones from the CAT brand, say, are tough in themselves – though on the other hand very bulky – an iPhone needs additional protection. The latest iPhones have glass backs, and those really are just as vulnerable as the display.
